01

What FINMA reporting is

  • FINMA is the Swiss financial market supervisor.
  • Since 2022 it collects data every year on Swiss investment funds with at least CHF 500 million in net assets.
  • Fund management companies report each fund’s exposures, leverage, liquidity and counterparty risks, as of 31 December.
  • FINMA uses the data to monitor risks in the asset management industry, above all liquidity risk and leverage.
02

What was hard

  • The hardest part wasn’t technical: it was aligning and coordinating across teams.
  • The data came from many interfaces, each owned by a different team with its own priorities and timelines.
  • I had to get access approved by each data owner before I could consume their data.
  • I had to get every team to agree on formats, definitions and delivery dates before the pieces could fit into one schema.
